FAQS

Should my glucose readings be exactly the same every time?

A little variation between readings is totally normal—and expected. In fact, the FDA allows blood glucose meters to vary by up to 15% from the lab value and still be considered accurate.

So, for example, if your actual blood sugar is 100 mg/dL, a meter reading between 85 and 115 mg/dL is still within the approved range.

Here’s why this matters:

  • No two fingersticks give exactly the same drop
  • Blood flow, hydration, and even how long you waited before testing again can shift the number
  • Pip—like all FDA-cleared meters—meets this accuracy standard

If you’re ever seeing major swings, or your readings don’t seem to match how you feel, do a control solution test to double-check your meter. And if you’re still unsure, talk to your healthcare provider—they’ll help connect the dots.

This meter reads lower/higher than my old meter.

What if my reading doesn’t match how I feel?

Start by doing a control solution test to make sure your meter and test strips are working properly. You can find instructions for that in your Pip meter kit.

If your control test looks good, wait 20 to 30 minutes and retest. If your reading still seems off—and especially if you feel unusual or unsure—follow up with your healthcare provider. They can help you interpret what’s going on in the bigger picture.

If the control test result is outside the expected range, it could mean an issue with your meter or strips—in that case, reach out to our customer service team and we’ll help you troubleshoot.

What is considered a good/normal reading?

We recommend speaking with your primary care physician to determine what is best for you.

Can I use alternative testing sites?

Yes—Pip lancets and test strips are approved for alternate site testing, including your palm or forearm.

That said, alternate site testing became popular mostly because traditional lancets were painful. With CGMs now common and Pip being designed to be much gentler, most people find fingertip testing (especially on the sides) is totally manageable—even if done a few days in a row.

Still, if you prefer alternate sites, you’re all set to use them.

How do I set the date and time on my Pip Glucose Meter?

Setting the date and time helps keep your readings accurate and organized. Here's how to do it step-by-step:

  1. Turn on your Pip meter by pressing and holding the power button. The meter will run a quick self-check and show a smiley face 😊 when ready.
  2. When the flashing test strip icon appears, press the up button twice until you see a clock icon.
  3. Press the power button to enter the time setup mode. The year will start flashing.
  4. Use the up/down buttons to select the correct year, then press the power button to confirm.
  5. Repeat this process to set the: Month; Day; 12-hour or 24-hour time format; Hour; Minutes
  6. When you're done, press the power button to confirm and exit setup mode.

That’s it! Your Pip blood glucose meter is now set to the correct date and time. ⏰

How should I store my Pip meter and test strips?

To keep your Pip meter and test strips working properly, store them in a cool, dry place between 41°F and 86°F (5°C to 30°C).

Avoid extreme heat or cold—like a hot car, freezing garage, or sitting by a sunny window.

Keep them away from moisture, humidity, and direct sunlight, and always seal the test strip vial tightly after opening to protect from air exposure.

A good rule of thumb: if you’re comfortable in the environment, your meter and strips probably are too.

Does the Pip meter have Bluetooth?

Nope. No Bluetooth, no app pairing, no syncing issues—and no “try turning it off and on again.”

We believe managing your blood sugar shouldn’t feel like setting up a smart home. Most people never use the Bluetooth features built into other meters, and we’ve heard time and again that all the extras just add friction to something that should be simple.

So we kept it clean: one button, fast results, no distractions.

Because when you’re living with diabetes, the last thing you need is another connection to manage.

How much blood does a Pip meter require for testing?

Just 0.8 microliters—a drop smaller than a sesame seed.

That’s all it takes: a tiny poke, a gentle squeeze, and you’re done. No big mess, no stress—just simple, reliable testing made easy.

Can you download your results & history from the Pip Glucose Meter?

We do not currently offer this feature with this meter. However, we provide you with a log book, so you can keep track and share with your Endocrinologist.
